Take the First Step
A personal reflection on golf, life, and the courage to begin

How It Started
Recently, I picked up golf—something I never thought I’d enjoy. Honestly, it always looked like a “non-sport” to me, slow and boring. But after coming back home, with too much free time and jet lag to kill, I wanted to fill my days with something meaningful. I ended up choosing three things: painting, tennis, and golf.
People often say practicing golf at the driving range is dull and repetitive. I never felt that way. I’ve always been someone who likes to start with the big picture before diving into the details. To me, a student should first get the concept, then explore the finer points. Otherwise, you’re just patching things up with no real framework. (Maybe one day I’ll write a separate post about this learning philosophy.)
Because of that mindset, I didn’t need many lessons before I started to feel the joy of hitting the ball. Watching my shots travel farther, noticing my consistency improve—it’s addictive.
First Time on the Grass
Two weeks later, I finally got onto real grass, practicing short game and putting. The moment the club hit the ball and brushed the ground—that feeling stuck with me.
I couldn’t help but imagine: a wide-open fairway, a few close friends, swinging, laughing, maybe arguing a little, then grabbing food together. That vibe, that mix of sport and connection, felt like something worth chasing.
The Philosophy of First Steps
So why do I keep saying you need to take the first step?
Because it applies everywhere. Traveling solo for the first time. Picking up a new skill. Starting a project that feels bigger than you. Every “first step” opens up a new branch in life.
I won’t try to define the meaning of life—it’s too broad. But one possibility, at least for me, is to keep challenging, keep trying, keep exploring.
It’s never too late. The only question is: will you start? And as for the outcome? Honestly—F**k it, I don’t care.
What matters is that you’re moving forward. That’s the only way to find out who you really are. Truth isn’t a destination—it’s the process of searching.
Looking Back
From being totally uninterested in golf to actually stepping onto the course—it was just one simple action: starting.
Maybe you see golf. But I see life.
So if you’re standing at the edge of something new, wondering if it’s worth it, here’s my advice:
👉 Take the first step. The rest will follow.
“You have to take the first step before there can ever be a second.”
